Silver Cloud, a 160-acre property on Cavedale Road is up, and I mean up, a winding road nearly to the Sonoma – Napa County line. It’s an incredible vineyard on the slopes of the Mayacamas Mountains that is part of the Stone Edge Farm Estate Vineyards & Winery.

Silver Cloud, located outside Glen Ellen, is quite a destination. Once an old mountain cabin, it is now a fabulous tasting and event facility surrounded by vineyards planted to Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc vines, expansive landscaping, and sizeable vegetable gardens.

Bordeaux-style wines are exactly what they specialize in creating.

We toured the incredible grounds, and tasted through their wines with Philippe Thibault on the deck of the gorgeously renovated mountain cabin.

Stone Edge Farm actually consists of four separate venues. In downtown Sonoma is EDGE, a private dining room and club member culinary facility. There is also a 16-acre organic farm where owners Mac and Leslie McQuown reside, as well as the mountain vineyard named Silver Cloud, and a wine making facility located southeast of the town of Sonoma.
Keep in mind, Stone Edge Farm wines are only available through their winery and visiting is strictly by appointment. And……many thanks to Philippe for an amazing tasting!

In close proximity, as the crow flies, but not by road is Amapola Creek Vineyards and Winery . Amapola Creek is 100 acres tucked away up the mountain from Aqua Caliente in the Moon Mountain Appellation The ranch property borders the highly regarded, old, Monte Rosso Vineyard.

The winery is the creation of iconic winemaker Richard Arrowood. Most recently he sold Amapola Creek to Brion Wise (who owns B. Wise Winery and Vineyards) and retired to Idaho…But the wines, well they are most notably wonderful old world style Cabernets that Dick Arrowood is so well known for creating.

Our private tasting was hosted by Daniel Caresio on the patio of the property barn that serves as office, tasting room and wine making facility. We were most impressed with, and went home with the 2016 Cuvée Alis Sonoma Valley, the 2016 Zinfandel Nuns Canyon Vineyard, and the 2016 Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma Valley.
Because of Amapola Creek’s remote location an appointment to visit and taste is a must. Don’t let that deter you from going. It is well worth the visit for a taste of Amopola Creek’s wines in such a terrific setting.
Thank you Daniel!
Salud!
