Iron Horse Vineyards is practically a hop and skip around the corner from us in the Green Valley of the Russian River Valley. It’s location as well as its simple tasting approach sets it apart from the increasingly popular trend to provide an “experience” with your wine tasting.

The drive to the winery is on a somewhat rough single lane road. It’s a good introduction to the rustic setting of winery buildings atop a hill that make up Iron Horse.

Tastings are setup outdoors so you can’t possibly miss the miles of beautiful vistas before you.

Best known for sparkling wines, Iron Horse also produces 14 still wines (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir) that amount to about half of their production.

Iron Horse’s Blanc de Blancs is a 100% Chardonnay grape sparkler that is easy to enjoy. Another that has been consistently lovely is their Wedding Cuvee. Of note, among their other 9 bubbly wines, are the Ocean Reserve Blanc de Blancs that donates $4 for every bottle sold to National Geographic’s Ocean Initiative which, among other things, supports sustainable fishing, and also the colorfully labeled Chinese Cuvee made each year in celebration of Chinese New Year.

This winter’s chilly weather has Iron Horse occasionally offering tasting inside their facility. On this visit bottling was set to start the following day.

New Orleans’ Commanders Palace has Iron Horse produce a sparkling Brut wine for them.

Iron Horse Vineyards has retained the simple, stand up tasting experience in a rustic, laid-back, scenery filled location that we keep coming back to enjoy!

Oh! just a note for those who travel with a canine…….

Salud!
I can almost imagine the gentle cork pop and enticing sounds of wine being poured. Now working on a July visit. Thanks for sharing.

Looking forward to your return……We’ll put Iron horse on one day’s itinerary!
Dear John and Debbe, Marta and I hope you are safe from the torrential rains and flooding. I can’t find your e-mail but fortunately via the wine blog we can communicate. Be well and careful . Stay dry …with the obvious exception of your viticultural proclivities !!! Sending love and moral support. Francis and Marta
