We visited Lancaster Estate a year ago and had an exceptional tasting in their cave. Returning a few weeks ago we reserved an outdoor tasting and lucked into perfect weather and the perfect host.

Lancaster is on Chalk Hill Road in Alexander Valley. The drive up Chalk Hill Road from Windsor is gorgeous but you can also drive in from Geyserville which is just as nice, view wise. To be honest, It’s hard to find a road in Sonoma’s wine country that isn’t down-right beautiful.

We were hosted by Larissa Schulz who is dynamic, engaging and exceptionally knowledgeable about Lancaster wines and the region. We had a terrific time tasting with her. I would highly recommend asking to schedule your tasting with her.

Our tasting started off with the 2021 Samantha’s Sauvignon Blanc followed by the 2019 Winemaker’s Cuvée, the 2019 Sophie’s Hillside Cuvée, the 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon, and finally, a taste of the 2019 Reserve Block 13 Malbec. Personally, I found all the wines to be stand outs.

Lancaster Estate is one of 19 wineries throughout California and Oregon owned by Bill and Carol Foley. With this portfolio of wineries the couple has created The Foley Food and Wine Society. I don’t usually write about wine clubs but this one seemed worth mentioning as membership offers unique access and benefits at all of their wineries.

This was a great beginning to a full day of tastings. Thank you so very much Larrisa!

Salud!
