This was a fantastic wine dinner held a few weeks ago for a crowd of friends at the Field Club.
The selected wines were all highly rated choices by Robert Parker, our favorite wine guru, along with the Wine Enthusiast and Wine Spectator.
Charles Smith “Kung Fu Girl” a Washington State Riesling started us off followed by a 2012 Jean Marc Lafage Cote’ Est.
The Barrel 27 “Rock and a Hard Place”, a 2011 Grenache from Paso Robles was chosen to move from the white wines to the reds. It was followed by the 2010 Domaine Saint Damien “La Louisiane” Gigondas and paired with a pork tenderloin course.
Barrel 27 wines have become favorites of ours. Of interesting note, at least to us, we had the pleasure of meeting and tasting wines in Sonoma at the Hartford Family Winery along with McPrice Myers before he started Barrel 27.
We were treated to a gorgeous sunset between courses.
Kobe Beef Short Rib accompanied by “Quercus” 2009 Chateau Puech Haut Coteaux du Languedoc Saint Drezery was incredibly wonderful.
The final course was a Blackberry and Raspberry Tart.
Many thanks to the hosts who no doubt spent a good deal of time in the careful selection of wines and to the chef whose pairing of the foods and preparation of the dishes was tip top!
What a delightful experience! We know some of the wines but there were others that we are certainly going to explore. My question to you both is: How do you stay so trim while eating and drinking such exquisite creations?
Abrazos, Francis
Would you believe me if I said we only drink and eat on occasions such as these!?!
Thank you Francis for the especially nice comments.
