Passing through Anderson Valley….

We were returning from a visit to the coast in Mendocino via route 126 and made a stop at Maggy Hawk in Anderson Valley. Chad Bovée hosted us on one of the tasting room’s beautiful patios. Sadly my iphone ate my photographs of the tasting room so you’ll have to take my word for it that it is quite an attractive place. Maggy Hawk makes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and a recent addition – Pét-Nat.

Sarah Wuethrich has been the winemaker here since 2017. She was formerly the assistant winemaker at Copain under winemaker Wells Guthrie (Guthrie is now in Anderson valley, high above Boonville producing excellent wines under the label – Dupuis Wines ). Wuethrich is creating both estate and regional wines with less alcohol and higher acidity from 3 Anderson Valley vineyards

In addition to the tasting menu we also tried a 2017 White Pinot Noir and the Pét-Nat. We did not leave empty handed. Our wine cellar now has Maggy Hawk’s Stormin’ and Unforgettable, both Pinot Noir from the 2020 vintage.

A couple things to note about Maggy Hawk besides its beautiful setting……..They have a fantastic bocce court available. Chad said to call ahead and they will provide bottle service at the court for you. In addition, they are offering “Pizza Sundays” through October. Check the details and make a reservation online at their website. Finally, it is especially nice to know the tasting room is dog friendly! They even have a fenced dog run to let your canine go wild in.

Thank you Chad for a great visit!

Salud!
