Flowers

Joan and Walt Flowers made two trips each year to California to purchase seeds for their nursery in my home turf of Bucks County, Pennsylvania. Those trips gave them more access to California wines, and most certainly fueled their growing passion for them. That passion got the best of them and they purchased land along the Pacific Coast on Camp Meeting Ridge thus beginning Flowers Vineyards and Winery and the production of acclaimed Pinot Noir and Chardonnay wines for over 30 years.

On a chilly day in January we joined our friend, Jay for a tasting at Flowers new facility – House of Flowers on Westside Road in Healdsburg. This is a gorgeous property. The buildings tastefully blend into the site and include extensive indoor and outdoor venues that are uniquely appointed.

Flowers was one of the first to plant grapes out at the coast. Having a winery and vineyards in such a remote and difficult to get to location greatly limited visitors access. The opening of this facility in Healdsburg has brought a wonderful opportunity for so many more people to experience their wines.

We had a great host who was very knowledgeable, friendly and perfectly attentive. As we tried the wines, food pairings, prepared by their in-house chef, were served giving us a chance to taste each of the wines with and without food.

Whether its a chilly winter day or a lovely warm summery day, this winery has very inviting spots to relax and enjoy their latest releases.

Salud!
