Exceptionally Fun Bubbly

This could quite possibly have been my favorite Sunday activity of all time – Iron Horse Vineyard’s Magnum Wine Tasting.

Iron Horse Vineyards is high in the hills between Forestville and Graton, California. They offer a number of tasting opportunities and the added benefit of a spectacular view of Green Valley. You can read more about the winery in our previous post.

The magnum tasting is new this summer and runs through the end of September. It’s only offered on the weekends so quick, make a reservation if you’re interested.

The tasting is held under a gazebo in the winery’s gardens. It’s set apart from the other tasting venues offering a whole different, rather private and beautiful view of the winery.

Along with Iron Horse’s best and highly rated sparkling wines there was fresh fruit, truffle salted popcorn, and a lunch box brimming with locally made cheeses, meats, olives, nuts and more.

Kevin was our incredibly knowledgeable host with, thank goodness, a great sense of humor. He needed that humor to handle our party of 8 on such a very warm morning.

We tried the 2014 Stargazing Cuvee, the 2017 Classic Vintage Brut, the 2013 Blanc de Blancs and lastly, the 2006 Joy. Tasting a 17 year old sparkling was an exceptional treat.

Each wine was so different from the next and pairing them with the variety of foods we had before us made it all the more interesting. I left with a new appreciation for popcorn as a side with sparkling wine, a renewed love of Journeyman Meats salumi, and a bottle or two of the 2013 Blanc de Blancs to add to our cellar.

Such a creative tasting event Iron Horse has come up with! Many thanks to Kevin for keeping our attention and making a perfect tasting for all of us.

Sauld!
